I was quite surprised to read the other day that the past 10 years have already been the worst 10 year period in the 80 or 90 year history of the U.S. stock market -- including the Great Depression. There have been some good years in the past 10, too. But I guess when you lose 45% of your value in one year, as the market did last year, that tends to drag the average down ;-(
