Some economists believe Sweden's turnaround was due to the effort to make the economy a free one. Sweden stopped or postponed some taxes, removed currency controls, made cuts in spending, diminished the bargaining power of unions, joined the EU, and started using private companies. The decline of the Krona helped spur exports. Also, I don't think Sweden has participated in any war since it lost Finland.
Or so economist Stefan Karlsson thinks. I've read similar views though from other economists.
