For me, PRIVATE data sessions were about the greatest thing in VFP. (I had been using FP 2.6 before.) It´s great being able to open/close tables without any risk of fouling other programs. On the down side, when you DO need to have two forms share a common environment, then the first form will have to pass its data session id as a parameter to the second.
