Let your boss know (and it is really true) that SQL 2008 is not a complete rewrite. The core engine is exactly the same as SQL 2005 so it is already really stable.

They have added new features like the table-value-parameter and file streaming which is really cool for everybody and other features like geo-spatial which will only be used by a subset of us.
