Buy the 2008 version and try it out. If you don't like it, use your downgrade rights to install the 2005 version instead. That way, your managers will have the safety of knowing they can have 2005 if necessary. (You can do this under the eopen license.)
Once you touch the 2008 version, you'll never go back. It's perfectly fine and stable; and a better product than the 2005 version.
