If degrees was an integer then I would have to set it to null as 0 might not be appropriate although it is not a degree.

Meteorologically speaking, a 0 knot wind has no direction, but I see no problem with defaulting it's direction to 0 degrees when the speed is 0 knots. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's what weather software would do anyway (either that, or keep the last direction that a wind speed was recorded at).
