Almost certainly best to switch the MSSQL. If you're currently using VFP then there's a good chance the SQL Express will be adequate.

For .NET there's a definite advantage with MSSQL - .NET has it's own specific dataprovider for MSSQL and if you can use SQL Express then it's free as well.
Downsides are that you will presumably have to migrate everyone's existing data from VFP and install MSSQL on all sites - unless you can use the CE version which is just a couple of DLLs that you can embed into the .NET application.
