What makes you think that a small company will have the resources to bring this to market professionally with a handful of sbuscribers

You don't need a huge workforce for a compiler or middleware product. One of the best Z80 compilers was written by a single man, Andy Gariepy. Google wc.dll to see the penetration of Rick Strahl's West Wind product for VFP. Rick is another one-man-band. And then there's your own focus as a MVP for mobile applicatiion devices: can useful mobile apps be written by a single person? We know they can and that somebody who writes a good one can earn enough to retire. The mindset that only huge teams can make progress is of benefit only to the plodders who want to hold innovative people back or big companies that want to stifle the innovation that usually comes from the smallest teams.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
