If they have a job and are doing well, they forget that perhaps as many as 12% of families can't feed their kids 3 healthy meals. Many of those families are not on unemployment because they work, but they don't earn enough to pay the bills and feed their families well.

Not at all. Some charities get donations from producers and large corporations (or donated or sold at cost from the manufacturer so no middle man or retail even) and other bulk purchases can actually bring the cost per meal down even further. Many large charities don't purchase retail.

For example, most folks don't know it but most large corps for products like Pampers, Campbells, etc actually 'give away' a percentage of their products to charities each year. In addition to that, they sell at cost or in bulk at reduced prices. bulk for a charity is not the same as a bulk at a warehouse. We're talking huge quantities.
