>>>I had the absolute honor to meet him several times during the early '70s. He never forgot about his fans - he showed up wandering the corridors in the Garden (Boston that is) after many a game talking to fans (especially kids) and signing autographs..

>>>He is probably the singular reason I got so attached to hockey.

>>I got to meet him a few other times in more formal circumstances (my uncle was commissioner of baseball back then and there were times the sports collided), but he seemed to be scared to death to be seen in a suit, so his appearences were very short.

>Interesting. I never made that connection with your name. He was commissioner for a long time.

>As far as Orr, I never met him but was fortunate enough to see him play a number of times. I grew up in Maine and every winter my dad would take my brother and I to Boston to see either the Bruins or Celtics play and stay overnight in a hotel. For all the sporting events I have been to over the years, the loudest noise I have ever heard was at the old Boston Garden when Orr would take the puck and start up the ice. Deafening.
I got a lot of aerobic (lung) exercise at those games. I still do at our RoadRunners games!
