>>Which brings me to a question which is itching me for a while - though I may only assume the things are unchanged, because I don't have the means to check whether it's still so (read: no TV). And the question is, why is there British content on PBS and NPR?

Really? So how come none of the rest of the world is capable of producing anything even remotely matching the quality of the content? Not even any other anglophone countries. We never see even a token proof of existence of television anywhere else in the world. It may be interesting to see how is "Are you being served" and other sitcoms so good that it's run for years, while anything made in, say, whole of Europe, Africa and South America is not worthy showing. While I had cable, I saw a total of one show made abroad (apart from the UK).

Borders may be vanishing, but not from TV and radio.
