I keep reminding myself that, as someone said, "the Fed is as much federal as FedEx". Of course they aren't covered by FOIA - they ARE NOT government. They are a bunch of private (partly foreign, AFAIK) banks. I still chuckle when I see some of their doing attributed to government.

Now how did they manage to become a sort of a federal institution, and how are they getting all this license to invent money, is a matter of history. How to undo that is a far larger problem.
