>"Socialist" seems to be the current epithet of choice among American conservatives. You wonder how much they understand about European socialism. Some of those countries are doing better than we are by about any measure.

In a truly socialist system, we would not only bail out the banks, but nationalize them as well. That way, all of the taxpayers would get their investment back when they become profitable again. Ha ha ha. Well, the holders of our money would get their money back anyway.

If this were a libertarian system, the banks wouldn’t receive a single dime of taxpayer money because if they failed, they deserved it. When it comes to bailing out banks under the current plans, I think the losses are socialized, but not the profits.
