How to add detail band from report to Word doc

A client has decided he'd like to convert the 60+ reports in his existing application to Microsoft Word documents so that users can modify the text after the data has been merged. It seemed like a reasonable request and most of them won't be that difficult to convert since they are primarily letters to begin with. However, several of them have detail bands that aren't ideally suited to a table layout since the fields from a given record are arranged both horizontally and vertically. What other options come to mind, other than leaving the detail band in VFP that is?
