But I've often wondered how financial institutions can afford to lend int.-free. I mean, if rates were, say, 15% pa, and you lent $1,000 for one year, who'd make up the $150 you'd lost on the principle?

>>>It's not a business, it's a charity. But rather than just give money away, we recycle it.

>>>That has the advantage of letting us do much less fundraising, and offers a certain dignity to our borrowers. They're not taking a handout, they're getting a hand up. You know "teach a man to fish" and so on.

>>Oh I knw that one: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. But teach him how to fish and his wife never sees him at weekends".

>It depends. For some people it may continue : "Teach him how to fish and he will destroy environment"

Well actually I was thinking "... and he becomes a sad mofo who sits on a river bank doing nothing all day", but I didn't want to insult any anglers amongst the community.
- Whoever said that women are the weaker sex never tried to wrest the bedclothes off one in the middle of the night
- Worry is the interest you pay, in advance, for a loan that you may never need to take out.
