I don't have a specific solution, but vis-a-vis your "random" crashes, I suggest you use the UT search engine and look for terms like "access violation" or "crash". There have been a number of threads, and the consensus seems to be that this type of error results from either a video driver or a printer driver using VFP's memory space.
While I have not yet solved my client's problem, the comments on UT were helpful in formulating a strategy.
