Okay, one final question to you and others: Is this kind of exception explicitly handled by your exception handler? If so, what type of handling can be advised here?

>Yes, I agree that error message is misleading in this case. It should be .FPT Access Denied type of error.
>There's no VFP team anymore at M$.
>
>>Well, there's a moment that vfp decides to trigger the Access Denied error. If that's done only after not being able to open the .DBF, then that's not good enough I guess. It should also trigger that error after not being able to open the .CDX or .FPT, don't you agree?!
>>
>>BTW, I'm not holding you accountable for that behavior. Don't get me wrong here. You are the one who took time to answer and for that I am grateful. My purpose of delving somewhat deeper is to get a better understanding of what happens and what can be done to prevent the 'Memo file...' error. I assume it's too late now to ask the vfp-team to repair this behavior.

Constructive frustration is the breeding ground of genius.
If there’s no willingness to moderate for the sake of good debate, then I have no willingness to debate at all.
Let's develop superb standards that will end the holy wars.
