You haven't listened closely enough to them then, Bonnie. There's a very short "ow" before the "oo", a lot like the Scottish pronunciation from which, I believe, te accent largely derived. There may be some canucks on the UT who may refute that but I've spent a lot of time in Canada, and I've got a keen ear for languages, accents, pronunciation, etc.
