The current use of the term 'redneck' is insulting because it implies "stupid." (There are many suspected origins for that word including Scot). However redneck has been used so much in comedy these days that most overlook it and laugh about it. There is absolutely no comparison between it and 'wet-back' or 'spic.' The two latter terms are so much more negative and insulting and closer to the n word that there really can't even be a comparison. I haven't heard 'wet-back' or 'spic' since the 80s. Even back then it was not acceptable.

>>>But the "wet-backs" who cross teh border aren't white, because they've a tan and are poor, whether pure iberian stock or not?
>>
>>Insulting. You cannot put words into someone mouth and especially not those words.

>Don't quite understand whose mouth I'm supposed to be putting words in. I don't like the appellation any more than you, why I put it in "". My point is that these poor migrants are referred to as non-white whereas they were originally from Spain or Portugal, and so are as white as you or I.

>BTW I've heard the expression "redneck" often here. That's not as insulting as "wet-back"? I've never heard anyone up in arms about its use. Both imply the back is bent under the sun, whilst doing manual labour.
