There was a very animated debate at the coffee shop last night about this. Everyone was in favor of the bonuses being returned, but the fact that congress could just pass a 90% tax law on the fly was terrifying. What taxes are next? What other law that congress feels is in the best interests of the public will they pass? The problem is that the govt is not administering and overseeing bailouts responsibly.

Wonder what other bills we will wake up to next week...

>Yeah, I know. AIG bonuses an outrage...whatever. But do any of you realize how grossly unconstitutional the congressional bill to confiscate the bonuses via taxation is?

>It's obviously a Bill of Attainder

>"A bill of attainder (also known as an act or writ of attainder) is an act of legislature declaring a person or group of persons guilty of some crime and punishing them without benefit of a trial. Bills of attainder are forbidden by Article I, section 9, clause 3 of the United States Constitution."
