>>>Yeah, I know. AIG bonuses an outrage...whatever. But do any of you realize how grossly unconstitutional the congressional bill to confiscate the bonuses via taxation is?
>>>
>>>It's obviously a Bill of Attainder
>>>
>>>"A bill of attainder (also known as an act or writ of attainder) is an act of legislature declaring a person or group of persons guilty of some crime and punishing them without benefit of a trial. Bills of attainder are forbidden by Article I, section 9, clause 3 of the United States Constitution."

>>>If they get away with this one then nothing is safe.

>>I'm not happy about such a thing either, but I doubt you could get away with calling it a declaration of guilt without trial. They aren't being accused of a crime, only of unmitigated greed and collossal gall.

>Does punishment recognizes the accusations? If someone is slapped with 100% tax, is it important to know the reason it's done, or it's more important to see the implications that the same could be done to anyone?
I doubt there are very many people in the US or Canada (or anywhere else) who don't recognise the accusations this tax punishes. As for the implications, well that's another whole kettle of fish. I agree with you that the implications are frightening for what could be done in the future (for whatever perceived trangressions).
