And then there were various predecessors called Talier... I guess there weren't too many original ideas in the genre anyway. Look at the Roman money - LSD (libri, solidi, denarii), from which you have pounds (abbr: lb or the pound sign which resembles a L more than a P), shillings (what shills do), and dinars - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinar shows which countries use(d) it.
