Um... something by Alzheimer? :) Sounds like something I have known once and now can't remember how many times did I forget.
I respect Tarkovsky for what he did for SF - both Solaris and Stalker are anything but your typical SF (or typical Soviet SF) movies. There are no explosions, no battles, no invaders, just a few people with their troubles, or rather, the troubles of the world on their shoulders. I completely skipped the rest of his opus, simply because of the hype - he's probably just as good in the rest of what he did, but seeing [unspellable, pron. Rublyov] run for the fourth time on TV1 was just a bit too much, and as with other hyped things, I deferred the reading until much later, to see what sticks with time.
I guess now would be a good time to see the rest.
