Hi Ed,

Just wanted to let you know that I finally found a way to get at the properties (Advanced) - using Control Panel and rt-click on Internet icon did the trick.

I now have a proper IE4 icon back on my DeskTop. That's a start!

Cheers,

Jim N

>My build is 4.72.31.10.8 with .SP1. Yes, it is direct from the VS 6.0 (Enterprise Edition) CD-ROM.

>I wish I knew waht "Active DeskTop" was - its objectives, benefits, operation, etc. Yes, I see it there, but I simply don't like to use what I cannot learn (first) about). Perhaps it is time to take the "tour" that comes up with every invokation of my system! I'm used to paper for information like this.

>As you can tell, I am less than adventurous as well as being non-intiutive to this stuff. I agree that that is a real handicap when dealing with MS stuff, but I see that as equally their problem as mine.

>>>Hi All,
>>>
>>>I have written a coupla messages about particular IE4 oddities on my machine.
>>>
>>>As I also said, I basically like what it (can) gives me, but I am at a loss to explain/understand a few things. . .
>>>
>>>Trying to resolve the 'no scroll using wheel on message area of UT screen' (but only when actually messages - I *can* scroll when other stuff is appearing there) I tried changing some of the "Advanced" options of the Properties.
>>>One that I changed was "Show IE icon on DeskTop", turning it OFF. The result was that the IE4 icon disappeared from the DeskTop.
>>>I really didn't mind that (though I admit it was surprising) BUT now I have NO WAY to access the properties to change it back the way it was! I have tried rt-click anywhere I see a IE4 icon, but to no avail!
>>
>>Get a copy of TweakUI, and use that to restore your Desktop copy. It's on the Win98 CD, or downloadable from MS' Web site. You also may be able to fix things by going into the Active Desktop settings from the Display .CPL, but I haven't tried this.
>>
>>>
>>>I also have a problem where termination of a IE4 session leaves a blank box on the start-bar. I can make it disappear if I d-click on the blank box.
>>>
>>>I also have the problem that IE4 will simply go into wait state on startup (after connection made) and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the End-Task box. A restart runs OK.
>>>
>>>I also have the problem that the connection drops very much more frequently than it did under IE3 (almost never there).
>>>
>>>I also have the problem, after accessing the NewsGroup (Programmers Exchange for VFP) that, even though I click on "Mark all as read", all messages come back on next access! I cannot get to newer messages without going through all old first!
>>>
>>
>>I can't duplicate either of these problems under either Win98 or NT, but you may be running something I'm not, or you may have an earlier build than I'm running. What builds are you running for Mail and IE4?

>>>Does this list give anyone a hint as to what may be wrong and, more importantly, how I can fix it?

>>>IE4.x SP1 install appeared to proceed normally (tought it was an install over a prior install, having lost my hard drive during the install of SP 6 and that drive being where IE4.xSP1 was originally installed). VS 6 re-install appeared to proceed normally too.
>>>
>>
>>I assume that you're using the VS release, not the RC from back in the July MSDN.
