>>>I'd say that if I've thoroughly enjoyed my life so far, why on earth should I feel deprived? Life is way too short to spend time worrying about things I might have missed. If i'd had depressive times when I felt like my life was empty or at least missing something important, then maybe I'd agree that I should feel deprived, but sorry, I don't. Sure I'd like very much to know and experience everything there is, but practicality forbids. If I'm watching a movie I enjoy, or playing a game of baseball and having a great time doing it, why should I also be spending my time worrying that I'm not doing something else that I might or might not enjoy?

>>I wouldn't be a spoilsport - when you're already at it, enjoy it. It's the time when I'd watch something, and then given the choices at hand, end up reading... if you're completely content with the choices given inside the dome, fine. That was my point.

Which would be tough, because I usually avoid such echo chambers, where everybody is quoting each other and pretending that their island is self-sufficient. Or maybe it is, because they don't feel any deprivation.

>>>If you feel deprived because you've never experienced Swahili cinema, then certainly, go and experience it. Personally, I'm not that worried about it.

>>All in due time. Presently, Wong Kar Wai is in my drive. I just love how he seemingly zigzags with the story, not giving one single nor two married damns about Stanislawsky, to the point where it becomes quite lifelike. Things appear in it even with no purpose at all.

>>>I already replied to that. Without searching back over the thread, I said I hadn't read it. I asked if it was good, and said I'd put it on my list to read.

>>You can't read a movie. You watch a movie. So...?

>Sorry. I misunderstood. We were talking about scifi writers and you threw that in, so I assumed you were talking about the book. Is it a good movie? And now you have me thinking back on whether or not I actually have read it. The title sounds vaguely familiar, but I might be confusing it with "The Solarians" by Spinrad. The problem is that I was reading Lem so many years ago, that I can't really remember whatall I read by him. I do vaguely remember some short stories about Ijon Tichy (sp?) but titles escape me except I seem to recall one called 'Star Diaries' (I think).

I didn't read Solaris, just watched the movie (long time ago). It is well known (movie was quite popular) that Tarkovsky went far away from the book source.
