The latter. I get it wrong quite often, maybe trying to get it as I go instead of waiting for the rest of the context. I've had good examples of sentences where after three words it changes the meaning several times until the end of the sentence.

Nothing yet. This time of year the ocean cools it all down so the spring comes quite late. We even had a bit of frost yesterday morning. But by summer we should have homegrown tomatoes, cucumbers and a few other things again. Last year our lawn proudly displayed lettuce among the rose bushes :).
