>>What difference does it make? Rock lyrics are not intended to be lessons in grammar. If someone uses language badly, and such language is adopted by rock lyricists, it's just lousy language usage, not something that needs to be dissected and parsed for grammatic accuracy.

Our choir is doing "Teenage Kicks" (The Undertones) at our next gig. John Peel's (UK's best ever DJ, now sadly dead at too young an age) favourite all-time pop record but I've always hated the stupid lyrics:

Are teenage dreams so hard to beat
Every time she walks down the street (What's her walking down the street got to got to do with whether they are or not?)
Another girl in the neighbourhood
Wish she was mine, she looks so good

so far so good

I'm gonna call her on the telephone (doesn't even know her yet but has her phone no. What other ways of calling someone are there?)
Have her over cos I'm all alone (Bit presumptuous as he's just said he wishes she were his)
I need excitement oh I need it bad
And its the best, I've ever had (He's not met her yet, so how can a possible future event be the best he's ever had?)
- Whoever said that women are the weaker sex never tried to wrest the bedclothes off one in the middle of the night
- Worry is the interest you pay, in advance, for a loan that you may never need to take out.
