In UI Automation, a control type is a set of conditions that a control must meet in order to use the ControlTypeProperty property. The conditions include specific guidelines for UI Automation tree structure, UI Automation property values and control patterns

Hi,
Ah. The clues in the quote:
This topic provides information about UI Automation support for the Pane control type. In UI Automation, a control type is a set of conditions that a control must meet in order to use the ControlTypeProperty property

So Pane is not a control - it's a UI Automation spec - applicable OS wide.
IAC, bottom line - I don't think Kevin literally mean 'Pane' and I think he's using WinForms...
Best,
Viv
