File case preservation is reason enough for me.

nb. for language purgists: I have two file cases, one for metal files and one for wood files; I keep them in separate file cabinets, which are a bit lower than usual, because I filed off their legs and filed the stumps under "various". File name casing is, though, a completely different matter. I use empoverished uranium for the casings, they last and shine forever.
