>Pierre Pierce, yup, that was him. He probably would have assaulted someone again in or out of the program, so I don't really blame Alford for giving him the second chance.

I do. He gave him a second chance, he committed the act, and it became an "Iowa Basketball Player" instead of a "Former Iowa Basketball Player" committing the act. Alford was scum above and beyond this instance. From one of his first speaches as a coach where he tried to equate himself to the legendary Dan Gable, to him walking into stores in Iowa City expecting to get free stuff. He's the anti-Kirk Ferentz.

>I had a girlfriend who went to Notre Dame. At the time she was there one of the stars of the football team was a tackle who later played for the Cowboys. (Podzeretz? Something like that). She said she was walking home from class one day when some huge guy, who she recognized as the football player, drove by in a golf cart and asked if she wanted a lift. She said OK. They zipped off in a different direction from where she was headed, which he didn't even ask. "Where are we going?" "Back to my room," he said. She said no thanks and stepped out. He didn't try to assault her or anything but she said he looked stunned. Apparently he felt like all he had to do was snap his fingers. Of course, there is a big difference between feeling entitled and raping someone.

This doesn't surprise me at all (especially at Notre Dame).
Very fitting: http://xkcd.com/386/
