In the interest of accuracy, it was an 8 year old kid and the gun in question was a fully automatic UZI. I cannot imagine what would possess anyone to put a fully automatic weapon in the hands of anyone untrained in its use or even possibly incapable of controlling its well-known propensity to rise while firing. Letting an 8 year old fire one would be like putting him behind the wheel of a Hummer and pointing him at a crowd of pedestrians.

But dramatic as that is, it is not the same thing as a kid on a range with a .22 or air rifle shooting at targets.

Guns are most dangerous when they are mystified or subject to emotional reaction - either pro or con.

>Ask the Dr. in Ashford, Connecticut, who took his 10 year old son to a gun show in Springfield, MA,last year where the son got shot in the head by the gun he used for target shooting. Maybe that will open your eyes. 10 years is too young. They don't let you drive or drink, why use a gun.
>Also, don't forget, where your answer is directed to.People in Cyprus are probably not as gun crazy as people in the US.

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
