Satisfaction was androgenously Jagger-esque ( and I thought was great ). Actually, I think putting his own spin on this stuff is a lot better than a fake butching it up. He isn't Johnny Cash - why not find something new in the song - we already have the JC version. Last season the guy who won did a Billy Jean that for me was a lot better than the Michael Jackson version.

>I'm glad I missed that <g>. I can only assume to is doing these macho songs as an exercise in camp.

>>I kind of like the guy. His "Born to be Wild" wasn't biker but implied a walk on a different wild side (and maybe a biker bar on Folsom in SF <bg> )
>>
>>You would have *really* gone ballistic on his "Ring of Fire" during C&W week <bg> Randy Travis's eyebrows almost left his head. (it weren't Johnny Cash)

>>His "Satisfaction" was pretty good as well. I think he or the 16 year old redhead (Allison Iruhita) should take it.

>>>>>>I read about her in the paper this morning and I was going to look her up. Thanks for posting it. An absolutely beautiful rendition of a beautiful piece of music.

>>>>>Brava ! Read about it in our paper this a.m. as well. I have a real soft spot for that musical and that piece and that is as good as I've heard it.

>>>>Yes. like I said once before, Les Mis is about the finest musical it's ever been my privilege to attend. And her rendition is superb. I actually did have tears in my eyes.

>>>>>May she have all the success she so richly deserves (and as the youtube alone has had someting like 8 million hits I think there is a chance of that <g> )
>>>>
>>>>If she does half as well as Paul Potts did, she'll do ok, and as you pointed out, she deserves it. The problem as I see it is that, looking around at most of the singers today, looks are waaaayyyy more important than talent. I just hope the music execs can get past that.
>>>
>>>Last night my daughters were watching American Idol and I watched for a few minutes with them. The guy I keep hearing is the favorite to win it, the gay guy, absolutely butchered "Born To Be Wild." He did show a sense of theater -- well, of course -- but his take on the song was something else. That song was a biker anthem. I can barely imagine what bikers would think of him screaming it in his high pitched voice, wearing more eyeliner than Paula Abdul. Maybe I'm just turning grumpy but the voices of the contestants sound tinnier every year.
>>>
>>>Now if you want to hear a real major league voice, check out Neko Case on the Letterman show tonight....

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
