I have a Diana Krall story. Must be about 15 years ago now, a friend and I were at the Toronto "One of a Kind Show", and we were looking at a display of a living room with very strange furniture. We were just standing there staring at it and there was music playing from a CD in that living room. The display attendant came out to us and asked me what I thought. I said, "I think that's Diana Krall". She had no idea because she hadn't put the CD on. Anyway she went and checked and came back and said that yes it was Diana Krall. She said she'd never heard of her, and I told her, "Give it a few years, and you will".

I discovered Krall by accident. I was in a CD store (HMV) and I was looking for a CD by someone I'd seen on TV but had no idea of her name. She'd sung a jazz song so I was leafing through the jazz section. When I came across Krall, I thought it looked a bit like her, so I asked if I could hear it. The salesguy put it on and gave me the earphones. It wasn't the singer I was looking for, but I sure didn't take a lot of time before buying it. That CD was "Stepping out". Great CD.
