workers - Used as a substitute for employees. Do employers not "work" as well?

>I just came across a word I seem to see more and more, and it sets my teeth on edge every time. The word is "stakeholders." Something about it just rubs me the wrong way. It sounds like such a made-up word, something a management consultant might say. Or maybe a life coach <g>.
