Michel, I never really look at the home page - you started a new thread about it and so I made a comment in response to Craig's.

If you want an opinion, here is my 2c: It is not that I think, imo, that it is too much content now suddenly - it has been too much content for a long time. There are simply far too many hyperlinks, options, headlines, headings, sub-headings, a huge list of news articles (one of so many on the internet and many taken from other aggregation services like The Register). etc. I'm only expressing an opinion but you need to "clean it up" - make it clear and obvious - use drop down boxes for different categories, etc. The colours are also, imo, dark and drab- I would lighten it all up a bit. Have a look at this book:

Don't Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability - http://tinyurl.com/cqf9qr

The forum is much cleaner and obvious and simpler and works really well.

>>The one positive is that there is still a login on the start page so I do not need to search for it and can ignore the rest:
>
>I do not understand your point. The login has always been there, except to the fact that it has been moved higher by a few pixels.

>>Overloaded, bad contrast, to much fonts.

>The number of content is as it was before. I calculated all of that before working on that and the result we have now is pretty much as it was before. On the right, there used to be a bunch of additional top 10 articles, for example, for the magazine articles, such as all, beginners, intermediate and advanced. Now, it is only one section, with the move of the last 10 conference coverages from the left to the right. I also standardized the last issue to be in a top 10 format. So, as far as the right side goes, we ended up with a little bit less content. As for the left, as we moved the last 10 conference coverages to the right, there was room for the last 10 jobs and last 10 meetings. So, that makes it one additional section but some items on the left side are now gone so the result is also pretty much the same as it was.

>Nothing changed on the main area. We just adjusted the subscription banner dimensions and put it to the right of the login. As far as the banners go, there is one less than yesterday.

>>Green on gray is a real paint to everybody with partial color blindness (around 10% of all people). Is there realy a need for all those effects? I have on some places a 64K connection only and this makes it even more painfull (IOW this is why I do not check UT in the evening or on weekends).
>>Why grey letters on whased out blue background? I think its hard to read.
>
>Nothing changed on that. It is still the same background with the same font and the same font color. What you see is what was there since several years.
>
>>What I see is that your design does not fit into screen width, I have white bars left and right. So the central part (the one where I look for information) is squeezed without need. For all normal (not only on UT) operation I ignore any part on top left right for the expectation of advertisement. (Ad creep?)

>The design is about 40 pixels more in width than the previous design. That's about it.
