Lights of life don't like traffic lights. There are another colors; brown, blue, green...The point is that if society creates rules for the safety and benefit of all, it only works if everybody co-operates. If a few selfish people insist on their "freedom" to ignore traffic signals, it's more dangerous for everybody else, so it is proper for government to step in and "assist" the freedom-fighter not to endanger their neighbors. Of course if everybody starts ignoring the signals then order has broken down and the law is an ass.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
