On Vista (and I think XP has almost identical menus)..
Right click on your VPN connection, select properties. In the properties window, select the Networking tab. Click on the Internet Protocol Version 4 (in XP I think it is just TCP-IP) and click the Properties button. Click the Advanced button. There should be a checkbox that says Use default gateway on remote network. Uncheck it.
