You should ask the question: "Is it even necessary to display to the user something they can not select?" If the answer is no, don't put them in the list in the first place. If the answer is yes, then why do you like to tease your users?

As far as the which column was clicked, go with Ed's suggestion of using a grid.. it can easily be formatted to look like a listbox.
