Did that once, a dozen years ago, and it entirely depends on whatever manufacturer's interface is. They should provide some software - at least something minimal that would read the value from the scale, or should provide a protocol for communicating with the device, usually via a serial port (may be USB nowadays). Before you know what the manufacturer is offering as a communication channel, whether it's one way or two way, can you use msComm activeX to communicate or do they provide their own ActiveX, or is there an API - nobody can tell you. There are probably as many solutions to this as there are different scale models.
