>HA! You think you have the steenking flu in NC? This is the steenking flu - Dr. Brian Evans, of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, said a Canadian returned from Mexico on April 12, and began work at an Alberta swine farm on April 14. "This person was exhibiting flu-like symptoms following the return, and may have exposed swine on the farm to an influenza virus," said Evans. "I can tell you that the traveler has recovered."
>It was later confirmed that the pigs were, in fact, infected with the same H1N1 virus spreading around the world. (Credit and ownership CTV News)

>>Hopefully, if he doesn't test positive, he is not contagious. I can't imagine they would let him travel if he was still infectious.

North Carolina has a huge hog market (2nd largest in the U.S.). However, NC has been the leader in health and safety precautions in the field. The measures taken to protect and isolate hogs is similar to working in a sanitized clean component factory. However, with all of the precautions they take, it is still not possible to prevent someone working on hog farm from not following the standards to the letter and infecting the swine or the other workers.

The first case was actually found on a NC hog farm in 1998. The safety precautions were put into place after the debaucle of 1998:
