Brian,

If you're using grids and filters and you only select a small subset of records, the filter is going to be very slow. The alternative could be in using filtered indexes instead or SET KEY command.

My advice to forget about filters at all if grid is involved and your application is pre VFP9.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
