Why the Visual SourceSafe's calls from the Project Manager (i.e. CheckOut) takes a lot of time to finish ??

Does anybody knows how to speed up the operations ?

I can use the SS Explorer for doing the check-out/in process, but the project manager list must be refresh manually.
