Many states have machine readable drivers licenses through either a mag-stripe or a 2d barcode (or sometimes both).

I have only found a few commercial vendors that provide DL parsing controls but they are very expensive to distribute with an application ($100 to $500 per seat or more).

There are published standards that the states (and Canadian provinces) are supposed to use to encode their licenses, however, just about every state varies from the spec. Furthermore, each state makes "improvements" as time goes by so you have to deal with the fact that a single state can have many revisions that are still "out in the field".

I have already written a DL parser that handles many, many states and many, many revisions (I have 6 years worth of states and revisions in the codebase already). Is anyone interested in collaborating on this project to hopefully add even more states and revisions to the codebase?

A standard drivers license can have the following fields decoded:
First Middle Last
Address
City, State Zip
DL #
DOB

This is a handy utility for any application that has a use for quickly entering customer information by scanning a drivers license.
