>Yes, it was a fun article. I missed punch cards. They had phased them out at Ga. Tech when I got there, but they still had some of the equipment around. Probably had a few programs here and there that were loaded that way. I guess my first programming class at Tech was on a HP 3000 minicomputer with dumb terminals. I had already been programming in BASIC on an Apple II+ in high school. Things are just a tad different now.
A colleague of mine was the IT boss in a construction company in 1986... when they bought a punch card reader (we sold her a PDP a couple of years later, though). The programmers found it hilarious and coded a huge printout, maybe 5m long, saying "With card reader into the XXI century" which they nailed to the wall above their desks. She somehow didn't think it was funny.
