And inflicting heavy-handed injustice only feeds their cause. Specially the way Gitmo was populated, by often one neighbor ratting on another for quite personal reasons - envy, grudge, land disputes, family feuds - which weren't really checked. And for every guy who was put into these dog cages for no good reason, there's a few dozens of relatives (plus, I guess, most of the village) who heard what happened and, more important, how it happened.
That surely boosted the chances of non-fundamentalist Muslims winning over the fundamentalists there.
