What I had forgotten, or maybe didn't notice well enough before, is that the first Bourne movie is a romance in thriller's clothes. Sure, it's a thriller, with many great action scenes. (Great use of music, too). But the heart of it is the relationship between Jason and Marie. They both have a hundred good reasons not to get involved, yet they choose to anyway. Very well acted by both of them IMO, revealing passion without going florid.

Of course if I were in a romance with Franka Potente (sp?) I wouldn't have to fake it too much, LOL.

Nor would a thinking woman have to fake it too much with Matt Damon, I don't suppose. Driving to lunch 3 or 4 years ago I caught a radio interview with him by the peerless Terri Gross of NPR. Somehow they got on the subject of a movie he had done with Mickey Rourke, and he said how charitable Rourke was with him. This was when Mickey Rourke was in professional purgatory, not so much noted as a screwup as forgotten. He said Rourke said don't make the mistakes I've made. And Matt Damon remembered it well enough to tell Terri Gross about it on the air. It left me with a better opinion of both of them.
