This reminds me of one I had a few years ago. I was going to Toledo for the weekend (yeah, yeah, yeah). As you may know, the Detroit airport is about an hour from downtown Toledo and the Toledo airport is about 45 minutes from downtown Toledo. Not surprisingly, there are no nonstops from Philly to Toledo, but lots to Detroit.

In looking at options, I found that Northwest (or, as I like to call it, Northworst) had a roundtrip PHL-DTW at reasonable times, but expensive. If I, instead, booked the same round-trip, but added the Toledo leg (that is, PHL-DTW-Toledo and back), the fare dropped $100. Absurd.

Airline fares and policies make no sense whatsoever.
