>>>I created some test directories yesterday for my data and copied all the tables and the DBC from the original to the new directory. One of the tables refuses to recognize it's part of the new directory and insists it's part of the old location (i.e. the table file location remains in the original directory and I get other errors to the effect the table doesn't belong to the DBC). I have tried removing it from the DBC in the current directory, freeing it from the DBC in the other directory, then copying the table and adding it back to the current DBC.

check the property field of the a record that has "objecttype" as "table"
inside that "property" field will be the relative path from the location of the DBC to the location of the DBF. If the table is stored on a different hard drive letter then i do not think a relative path will be placed in the field i think an absolute path will be placed in the "property" field.

before playing around with the contents of a DBC or DBF make copies.

Open up the table that is giving you problems inside either "wordpad" or "notepad" and in the header of the table you will see the path to the database.

Check to make sure that path is correct.

If it is incorrect then do as you mentioned earlier and turn the table into a free table and add it to the database again.

Make copies of the DBC and DBF and the memo files associated with them before editing these things in an unconventional way.

HTH Dave.
