Well in both cases these are amateurs, no training to speak of, and comparisons to “real” singers or whatever is irrelevant. The first is a 17 year old high school kid and the second works in a local hotel waiting tables. This is what I think the show is about really, finding rough talent that can be trained and polished into something special. The fact that Simon Cowell thinks they are good is telling – this is his business. Plus they both had huge crowd appeal.

The second guy is not weird - that is a judgement based on pre-conceived ideas of what his dress style normally implies (rocker) and it conflicts with his actual talents, male soprano. It creates a mental disconnect but that’s not his weirdness but rather our own pre-conceived judgement.
