Yes but how many of those "other jobs" get healthcare until the day they die ( 20 or more years after retirement ) and don't pay for it. Granted they "negotiated" and got it so kudos to them but I still have a hard time with $54 a hour ( that is salary without bene's ) to watch an 80% automated line piece together modular parts built somewhere else. The newer plants opened in the south by offshore non Big 3 manufactures do the same work for half the price and their model seems to work and their cars, sad to say, are better.
If the average college grad with 10 years on the job makes $54 an hour ( salary not bene's ) then point me to that line of work. I am a college grad with over 20 years and I can't say I see that cash and I am in a technical field that requires analytical though not just pushing a button or watching a robot.
